soooo… guess we should have a thread to introduce ourselves, and I guess I should kick it going…

Hi Everyone :slight_smile: I’m Matt ( well thats what my parents named me) but most of the time I just get called Yeti (thats when people are being polite)

I race 2wd and 4wd buggies, most frequently at SOAR in Sheffield, but also sometimes at MB and Manor

Im also the guy that appears in most of the RCMisfits youtube videos… although so far I still think I have escaped mentioning my name on there.

I have a swiftly revolving stable of cars , mainly because I just like building them, but I guess im best known for running PR Racing ever since I picked up a 3rd hand 401 and proceeded to demonstate that , even though they are strong, they are not as some people think, indestructable.I have managed many destructionings.

So, introduce myself :blush:
My RC journey started way back in the late 80’s believe it or not where as a family we used to go to the model week at primrose valley. Started age 6ish with a little 4cell mardave mini oval racer, never used to be able to compete a 5 minute run.
Did that for one week a year for about 3/4 years and grew out of it really :pensive:
Then got a tamiya blitzer beetle for my 13th birthday (I think) which I loved :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Then years later when I ended up with a job and some proper money I went out and bought Losi street weapon (which was well above anything I’d ever driven before) it lasted 4 mins before I hit a kerb with it and didn’t know how to fix it so that was that gone :joy:
I picked up an old cheap tt01ford focus from a car boot which had been converted to brushless, has a bit of fun with that for a bit then that went in the loft :roll_eyes:
Now we move on to present, after Covid I fancied a new hobby so searched up for local Rc clubs and I remembered I still have that old t-01 in the loft when I came across BENCH BUDDY :+1:t2:
This is where I first met the likes of our founding member yeti, mick, Paul and the Smedley’s
After then picking up a newer truck-02 to race there and realising they just fall apart when you look at them, I upgraded to my first associated b6 which I bought from Paul
Found myself hooked and made a few friends, made all the difference to the hobby.
Then got introduced to SOAR and picked up a rally car too :heart_eyes:
Then became a misfit in
the rest they say is history.

Toy cars how did we get here, soooo moons ago probably 30+ years…. I was rather good at annoying my old man whilst he was using the spanner’s on 1:1 cars as a distraction he got me a tamiya monster beetle from then I was hooked I could rebuild it and tinker for hrs, been from a family of wheeler dealers the monster beetle wasn’t the only 1 for very long I soon had my own shed filled with carboot and auto jumble finds I even had the bloke at the local tip hording for me :joy:

I’ve dabbled in just about every formula and scale be it for 1 meeting or a few years, I’m no podium pony but I enjoy it, aside racing or trying :joy: was quite well known in the rc crawler scene for importing custom parts and hand building tube chassis that managed to make it worldwide :cowboy_hat_face:

Like most I’ve been in and out of the hobby many times! The famous last words I’ve done….then I see a car a radio or even a sticker and my impulsive nature takes over and I’m a mortgage deep in my latest FAD

Our latest return was after watching my son burn his eyes out playing video games, I dragged him to the local rc club and bought him a tt02 we later realised SORA was only 8 miles from home and buggy’s imho are far more fun than tc!……during the inital 6 months we had joined the ‘misfits’ and following that and letting my wallet do its thing we have a array of 2-4wd buggy’s all AE of course :ok_hand:t3: that we use weekly at various clubs

You won’t find a better hobby :moneybag::moneybag:

Hi everyone, I’m Chris.

I’ve just wrapped up my first outdoor season, running mostly in short course, and it’s been a great learning experience. I’m still pretty new to the RC scene but enjoying every bit of it so far. Looking ahead, I’m planning to switch things up for the winter season and give rally a go, really looking forward to trying something different and picking up some new skills along the way.

Excited to be part of the club at SOAR and looking forward to meeting more of you at the track (and picking up a few tips too!).

Good morning.

My name is Paul and I’m a raceaholic.

Whether watching full size stuff, racing different scale of slot cars down to why I’m here, RC

I’ve been racing RC on and off since around 1990, I was a late starter being around 25 at the time .

I started with a second hand Grasshopper, moved on to a Fire dragon, then realised I needed something actually built for racing so got a secondhand Cat XLS.

That’s then I realised it was costing too much so packed in for about a year. When Zi restarted I got a Traxxas Radicator which I soon turned into a Hawk Truck, various other buggies followed, most of which got turned into trucks, including a Mardave Cobra which I did my first truck National with in 1994. Trouble at home (later a divorce) kind of meant I had to have time out again and restarted in 1996 when I bought a Traxxas SRT to do the Truck Nationals, this was followed by an MRC mt20s and when common sense prevailed a Losi XXTcr

2000 I’d ran out of money and had to leave work due to mental health problems so ended up taking 12 years off starting again on 2012.

I was never that good before but it’s taken an absolute age to get used to the now common mid motor configuration of the trucks having spent years with rear motors.

And just as I’ve now become more confident withid motor, I’ve decided to race rally this year, probably using the same model I used 26/27 years ago, Schumacher SST Rally :smiley:

Hi, I’m Carl. Didn’t start racing until I met my friend Paul, he’s been a great help with my cars and stadium… but before all that I was a rc scaler, got a vast number of them. Racing I think I still struggle, I always greatfull from the help from Paul Roach and anyone else… apart from that my private life I do not want to go into
