Kit bashing the PR Racing RM

The RHR classic is rolling around again… and it is an AWESOME weekend. I went for the first time last year and i am HUGELY looking forward to this year.

There was one fly in the ointment tho… i wasn’t driving well… and i didnt really get in with the RM i was racing.

Now my usual approach to this is to go out and get something else, like the newly released Cougar 2 works… but in a rare moment of frugality (and after looking at my bank account) i have decided to try and make the RM better. (And finish the van, but thats another story)

So… what am i gonna try? Errrrrr i dunno yet lol but i had a few general observations.

  1. the RM is a loooooong bitch - and i think she was suffering with this , she wasnt very nimble in the corners.
  2. there isnt much arm adjustability in tbe rear arms
  3. there is a lot of interchangability of parts between generations of the PR 2wd.

So my thoughts at the moment are to use a spare chassis, cut her down a little shorter, use the more modern pill rear arm hangers.

I have 3 initial things to think about… wheelbase and chassis material… which rear hangers (differences in limits of antisquat. Rear hanger selection may be limited around gearbox tho, i think either way there will be a bit of grinding to do.

I have a couple spare chassis plates, the front kicks are bolt on so initially i was thinking about trimming from the front and re-drilling the bellcrank and servo mounting holes, but then noticed id have some tip deck issues so i think triming from the back will be easier.

Soooo the decisions…

Alloy or Carbon? I was thinking carbon for easier cutting and extra flex

And what wheelbase to aim for?
Currently the pr is around 280mm

Any one know off hand the wheelbase on some of the older rear motor buggies before i dive deep into google?

I believe the +8mm chassised b4.1 and .2 were 273mm so standard b4 must be in the 265mm range
My original 1990 team car is about 265mm also
Interesting that the rear motor b6 cars seem to work and they are long🤷🏻‍♂️

Been doing some looking , from what ive seen if google results are to be believed orig rc10 was 270mm Losi XX was about 275mm

Generally i think buggies have increased in length as tracks have got grippier and smoother. Which kinda matches up with what you say above.

With RHR being astro, but the classic being honeycombs in the dry im guessi g aim to the shorter of the range so 270 to 275, which fits into my finger in the air guess of taking 10mm off… this is all very scientific lol
